American Airlines and Delta Air Lines have both posted their performance figures for March, with the last month’s disasters in Japan leading to a noticeable slump in load factors on the carriers’ trans-Pacific routes. American Airlines’ load factor for Pacific routes fell 11.9 percentage points to 75.2 percent for the month, as demand performed low compared to a capacity increase. Delta meanwhile, saw a 13.2 percent decline in trans-Pacific load factors in March. The airline’s demand on the routes increased by a marginal 0.6 percent year-on-year, with capacity increasing 18.6 percent compared to March 2010. American and Delta have both now announced that they will cut capacity to and from Japan in April, as demand for flights plummets.
