Japan will continue provide Vietnam with US$6 million in aid for afforestation projects along sandy coastal areas in central Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces. According to a VietnamNet Bridge report, the aid scheme, signed in Hanoi on 6 July, plans to eliminate coastal erosion from tides and typhoons, protecting adjacent agricultural and residential areas.
This is the second phase of the tree planting scheme, the first of which ran from 2001-05 and saw 3,100 hectares of forests planted on sandy coastal areas, minimising damage to roads, railways and other infrastructure in the area.
