Jazeera Airways will increase flight frequency to Istanbul this summer and migrate services to the main city airport early next month.
The low cost carrier will shift its Istanbul services from Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW) to the city’s primary hub, Istanbul Atatürk Airport (IST), from 2 May. The move to Istanbul Atatürk Airport bolsters the airline’s Istanbul service, offering travellers better flight schedules to the heart of the city.
The airline will also increase the number of return flights to the touristic Turkish city from three return flights a week to five return flights a week. Return flights from its hub at Kuwait International Airport will operate on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
Jazeera Airways vice president of industry affairs, Bader Al-Mershed, said; “This is great news for travellers. Since we started serving Istanbul through Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in 2008, Istanbul has become a favourite vacation and business destination for travels from Kuwait and the region.”
The increase in tourist travel between the two countries has contributed largely to the yearly double digit growth in number of passengers since 2008. In 2013, number of passengers between Kuwait and Istanbul increased by 51% from 2012.
This reflects massive growth along the Kuwait-Istanbul route over the past five years, with passenger traffic increasing by 419% between 2008 and 2013.
