Jet2.com has announced that it will launch 26 new routes and increase capacity next year. The airline, which carried a record 2.8 million passengers this summer, has already added winter flights to Hurghada, Madeira, Geneva, Chembery, Salzburg and Budapest. In 2011 it will look to sell an extra 1 million seats on new routes, including Dordogne Valley (Brive), Bodrum and Krakow. Jet2.com will also commence flights from its new hub, Glasgow, from March 2011. As a result, the carrier will add four aircraft to its fleet and look to employ 600 members of staff. “Despite it being a challenging economic climate, which has seen both airlines and tour operators failing, we have had a very successful 2010 to date,” commented Philip Meeson, boss of Jet.com. “We put this down to our friendly service and the popularity of our convenient flight times, 22kg baggage allowance and allocated seats and points for free flights that reward our loyal customers.” Meanwhile, Jet2holidays has seen its bookings double in the last year, with Majorca, Malaga, Costa Blanca, Tenerife, Faro and Sharm el Sheikh identified as popular destinations. The operator has also secured a contract for Tui Travel to sell its packages. “Since Jet2holidays launched we have seen phenomenal sales of our package holidays,” said Steve Heapy, managing director at Jet2holidays. “We are continuing to add new destinations and accommodations from self-catering to all-inclusive and our relationship with Tui Travel will make it easier for customers to book Jet2holidays.”
