Jet2.com is set to fly some 500,000 passengers from Scotland next summer, following the launch of its new Glasgow base. The low cost carrier will offer a direct service to Nice, as well as flights to Alicante, Dalaman, Faro, Tunisia, Majorca, Paphos, Sharm el Sheikh and Tenerife from its eighth hub. Two aircraft will be based at the airport from March 2011 bringing substantial investment to the region and 150 new jobs. This, combined with a new plane based at Edinburgh, is set to draw in a further 200,000 customers next year, according to the airline’s predictions. “We are taking bookings now for flights next year,” Jet2.com Managing Director Steve Heapy told Travel Daily. “We are keen to work closely with the Scottish travel trade to promote our new routes and travel agents are very important to us. We’ll be offering fam trips from Glasgow, as we do with our other routes, so that agents can better understand the detentions and what we offer.” Both Jet2’s package holidays and flight only trips are currently available for trade bookings.
