CEO of Tourism Tropical North Queensland, Rob Giason called today’s announcement
by Jetstar a “bonanza” for the Tropical North Queensland tourism industry. “The
announcement demonstrates confidence in the destination from Jetstar and recognises
strong consumer demand” Mr Giason said.
“The additional 18 flights a week from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth provide
the much needed capacity to grow the tourism market to Tropical North Queensland.
The flights will serve domestic travellers and give international visitors arriving in other
ports easier access to our region.”
Jetstar will increase the frequency of flights from both Sydney and Melbourne to Cairns,
to 14 weekly up from seven. Services from Adelaide increase to six weekly up from
four and from Perth to five weekly up from three.
The introduction of four new A320 aircraft by Jetstar will see the increased Cairns
services commence between March and July 2010.
