KL prepares for F1 with week-long festival

(Hong Kong - 22 March 2010): Kuala Lumpur (KL) once again becomes the world motoring center of attention when it hosts round three of the FIA Formula One (F1) Grand Prix World Championship in April. Riding on the heels of F1, the city is set to showcase top notch KL lifestyle to visitors at the week long Kuala Lumpur Grand Prix (KLGP) Festival which culminates on 4 April with the F1 Grand Prix finale at Sepang International Circuit.
The festival will kick-off with the eighth Vintage & Classic Car Concourse at the Petronas Pit Pulse base in Kuala Lumpur city centre on 27 March and featuring one of the largest collections of vintage cars on show in the region this year, with models from as early as 1924 right up to 1983 on display.
It will be a thrilling experience, especially for vintage automobile enthusiasts, with a line-up of a wide range of models from such classic car makers as Mercedes-Benz; enduring classics such as, Bentley, Jaguar and Roll-Royce; iconic sports cars from British manufacturers MG and Triumph; and Italian legends Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati. Americana will be represented by Buick, Chevrolet and Packard. The long history of the automobile will be celebrated with departed, but not forgotten, names such as Alvis and Armstrong Siddeley.
On the same day, Petronas Pit Pulse at Jalan Binjai will showcase an array of exciting events and activities, including an exhibition and promotional booths; F1 simulator challenge; Petronas go-kart experience; Mercedes’ heritage and DTM cars demo; and live performances by local artists such as Aizat, Yuna, Bunkface, Estranged and many others through to 4 April.
In continuing Petronas’ tradition of bringing the F1 experience closer to the public, seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher will run MERCEDES GP Petronas MGP WO1 special demos with Nico Rosberg at KLCC on 31 March from 5pm.
The excitement continues with KLGP City Festival presenting the star studded Gilded Garage Gala later that evening along with celebrities, fashionistas, industry movers, corporate leaders, as well as Mercedes GP Petronas drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg.

This F1 season promises to be the most exciting yet with the return of renowned drivers Michael Schumacher, Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso and others all in the quest for this year’s championship. STYLO Fashion Grand Prix 2010 (STYLO), presented by Mercedes-Benz, will return for the third consecutive year from 26 March to April 3. Giant sculptures depicting a variety of themes, measuring from five to 20 feet, will line the streets of Kuala Lumpur and the Pavilion in complete style. Constructed by renowned local artist Philip Wong and 100 Malaysian artists under his supervision, the sculptures will utilize strictly recyclable products.
Themed “Fashion to Art and Art to Fashion”, top Malaysian artists, fashion and accessories designers, and hair and make-up artists will come together in one of the most unique creative collaborations the world has ever seen.
The glitzy event will feature spectacular fashion entertainment in several locations around the city namely, the shopping strip of Jalan Bukit Bintang, the clubbing street of Asian Heritage Row, the elegant National Art Gallery and a secret location within a historic part of Kuala Lumpur.

Formula 1Malaysian Cultural Festival, the first outdoor event of its kind, will be staged at the Pavilion KL. On the weekend of the F1 race from 2 to 4 April, visitors and F1 spectators can experience the best of Malaysian Cultural featuring Malay, Chinese, Indian and the East Malaysian extravaganza cultural performances daily from 5pm to 11pm.
Coinciding with the KLGP Festival, there will be the Malaysia Grand Prix Sale from now to 11 April. Pavilion KL at the heart of the city centre will also host an Ultimate Pitstop Festival where fashion, dining, and glamour converge into a high-octane F1 celebration.
