KLIA passenger traffic falls

Passenger movements at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) fell 0.5% to 2.32 million in May this year compared with the figure a year ago, Bernama has reported. The decline was due to a drop in international passenger movements, which fell 0.8% to 1.51 million, a report released by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) was reported saying. The number of domestic passengers at the country’s main airport was down only marginally at 810,900 from 811,300, it added.
For the other airports operated by MAHB international passenger movements fell 9.3% to 223,100, however this was offset by domestic passenger movements which rose 5.6% to 1.51 million. Overall, the other airports posted 3.4% growth with 1.74 million passengers.
The number of aircraft movements increased with KLIA recording a 7.4% growth to 18,850 movements in May, while movements at other airports rose 5.6% to 25,540. At KLIA, the international aircraft movements rose 11.5% to 11,970, while the domestic movements rose 1.0% to 6,890. At the other airports, international aircraft movements rose 2.7% to 3,160, while the domestic movements rose 6.0% to 22,380.
