South Korea is targeting Chinese tourists with a new public transport card and a smoother visa service. According to a Shanghai Daily report, the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) will start distributing the new ‘Y-MONEY’ transport cards this month to tourists in Shanghai.
The cards cost KRW2,000 (US$1.50) and carry KRW3,000 worth of travel discounts. Tourists are also able to top-up the cards, allowing them further discounts. Card users are entitled to a discount of KRW100 on public transport fares as well as other transport bargains.
The South Korean Consulate General in Shanghai has also announced simplified visa application policies in Shanghai, as well as in the provinces of Zhejiang, Anhui and Jiangsu. Any Chinese citizens who have already visited a place like the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and Europe will no longer need to provide an employment certificate and the company’s business license when applying for an individual tourist visa. The policy also applies to anyone who has visited South Korea on more than three occasions.
