The tie-up will enable Korean Air to place its ‘KE’ code on the trans-Pacific route, which American has operated since May 2013 using its refitted Boeing 777-200 aircraft.
Passengers from Seoul will also be offered connections to almost 200 destinations in The Americas with American Airlines.
“The new codeshare cooperation with Korean Air is an important milestone in growing our relationships with carriers around the globe,” said Kurt Stache, American’s senior vice president of alliances & partnerships.
“This is the next step in strengthening our position in Asia, allowing us to win new customers in the region. We look forward to a strong relationship with Korean Air.”
If approved by regulatory authorities, the two airlines plan to start operating the codeshare flights in April 2015.
