Singapore, 27 October 2009 - Abacus International, Asia Pacific’s leading revenue partner for airlines, is pleased to announce that Korean Air bookings on the Abacus channel have grown by over 30% year-on-year across the five key markets of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. This impressive result comes further to the highly successful adoption of the Abacus FareX platform, supported by a massive joint tactical promotion across the aforementioned markets.
Specifically, the airline managed to register growth in ranging from a remarkable 110 percent in The Philippines to a stellar 228 percent in Thailand. Korea Air first expanded its usage of Abacus FareX in the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia in June of this year, meaning that their achievement of such a growth in bookings has been swift as well as highly impactful.
“In a tough economic climate such as we are currently experiencing, having access to a widereaching distribution tool and pro-active in-market customer service support is critical to the airline business. The significant flight bookings made by the team at Abacus have had a strategic impact on our growth plans for the region. We would like to build on this to drive the crowds to our other major routes too,” said Mr Kang Dae Hwan, General Manager of Passenger Sales and Marketing for Korean Air in Southeast Asia & Oceania.
Given the successful results gained using Abacus FareX, Korean Air has subsequently launched an exclusive joint promotion with Abacus in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, providing travel consultants the chance to win Korean Air tickets and other attractive prizes. The marketing blitz for this promotion started on 10 October 2009 and will continue until 10 November 2009.
Mr Ho Hoong Mau, Director of Airline Distribution, Abacus International said, “It is extremely satisfying to see that Korean Air flights are generating such high growth in booking numbers via the Abacus channel. Helping our suppliers grow their revenue is a primary goal we keep in the forefront of our minds when working to develop supplier relationship programmes. To this end, we were pleased that Korean Air decided to partner Abacus in leveraging our Abacus FareX platform and to work with us on a multi-market promotional blitz.”
He continues “Of course, we must also congratulate our in-market agencies on their hard work too, together ensuring success for suppliers across Asia. We hope this will encourage Korean Air to add further investment in this region to tap the tremendous opportunities in Asia and they can always count on Abacus highly productive channels to grow their business further.”
