Krabi Airline is holding back its launch plans amid an uncertain economic outlook. Bangkok Post reported that the airline had told the Thai Department of Civil Aviation about changes in three key areas – the start-up date, the operation pattern and the type of aircraft.
Branded as KAir, the airline would not begin offering scheduled flights from Bangkok to Europe as planned earlier but would fly on a non-scheduled basis to reduce pressure to fill seats.
According to the report, the airline has now set its launch date for end August instead of March. KAir had also informed the DCA that it was switching from Boeing 747-300 jumbos to a wide-bodied Airbus jetliner, the Post said.
A DCA official told Bangkok Post that KAir’s licence would be terminated if it failed to start flying with at least two aircraft within the first year.
The airline intends to link Scandinavia and Western Europe with Krabi and Phuket.
According to the KAir website, the airline hopes to begin service on the Oslo-Krabi-Don Muang (Bangkok)-Oslo loop on August 30; followed by the Munich-Krabi-Don Muang-Munich circle on September 2.
KAir had also indicated a plan to offer up to four flights between Thailand and Oslo and two flights to and from Munich, the report said.
