LAN Airlines has confirmed that it will re-route its scheduled Sydney-Auckland-Santiago flights until Monday 27 June, due to the volcanic ash cloud in New Zealand airspace. Instead of flying via Auckland, the daily LA800 service will operate via Papeete, in French Polynesia.
The aircraft will only touchdown at the Tahiti hub, and passengers will not be able to disembark or join the flight there. The eruption of Chile’s Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcano has caused widespread disruption to flight services in the region.
