Landslide hits town in northern China

A landslide hit a mountainous town in northwest China’s Gansu province last night, state news agency Xinhua has rpeorted. Local authorities were able to evacuate 289 residents, but there has been no confirmation of any casualties. The landslide destroyed part of an outdoor plaza in Dongxiang and cut off the town’s electricity supply. A rescue effort is underway.
