London Gatwick and Edinburgh Airport closed due to freeze

Air services have been severely affected across the UK, following another night of snow and freezing temperatures. Severe disruption for air passengers is expected at Gatwick Airport where both runways are closed, while in Scotland Edinburgh Airport will remain closed until the afternoon. Air traffic into Guernsey Airport has also been affected and passengers are advised to check with their airline. A statement from British Airwyas read: “London Gatwick is closed all day with all flights being cancelled. Edinburgh and Newcastle airports are also currently closed - customers are advised not to go to the airport. Flights from other airports are also experiencing cancellations and disruption. We are monitoring the situation closely.” Following a night of heavy snow fall, of up to 15cm in some areas, the Met Office issued further heavy snow warnings for much of the eastern side of Britain and some central areas.Overnight, temperatures hit a low of -20 in Altnaharra, in the Highlands.
