Lufthansa buys stake in JetBlue

Lufthansa has bought a 19% stake in US budget carrier JetBlue Airways which a Reuters report said signal the start of a large-scale ownership grab in the global airline industry.
Lufthansa’s plan to invest US$300 million in JetBlue sets up a link for the carrier in the key New York market just a few months beore traffic between the U.S. and Europe is liberalised.
“I think we’re going to see more of these deals,” Stuart Klaskin of aviation consultancy Klaskin, Kushner & Co., wa quoted saying.
“I think you’ll see partnerships of foreign airlines buying stakes in U.S. carriers.”
