Former Formula One world champion and low-cost carrier owner, Niki Lauda, has said that Lufthansa’s takeover of Austrian Airlines as a catastrophe for Austria, after it made large concessions to secure the deal, ChannelNewsAsia has reported. In an interview with Austrian newspaper, Oesterreich, Lauda called the deal “the biggest catastrophe (for Austria) since World War 2″.”It takes no skill to give away an airline and then still pay EUR500 million (US$713 million) on top of that,” Lauda added.
