Lufthansa is further boosting its services to Africa and increasing the number of flights it operates to Nigeria from ten to 14 per week. Following the introduction of the winter timetable on 25 October 2009, with these four additional flights, passengers will be able to fly daily from Frankfurt to the Nigerian capital Abuja. This service will be operated non-stop, enabling passengers to reach the young metropolis, which is located in the centre of Nigeria, in just six hours from Frankfurt. Three times a week, flights to Abuja will continue on to Malabo in Equatorial Guinea.
Lufthansa is also resuming services to Port Harcourt, and will operate onward flights from Abuja to the Nigerian port city four times a week.
“In addition to the existing daily service to Lagos, Lufthansa will operate twice-daily flights to Nigeria from the upcoming winter and will offer numerous connections from its Frankfurt hub to this important African country,” said Karl-Ulrich Garnadt, member of the Lufthansa German Airlines Board. “Over the past 18 months, Lufthansa has added eleven extra flights to its schedule and launched services to four new destinations - Libreville, Luanda, Malabo and Port Harcourt - , thus making the West and Central Africa region a key focus of its expanding route network.”
In 2006 Lufthansa had to suspend its services to Port Harcourt due to the closure of the airport. After Abuja and Lagos, Port Harcourt is Lufthansa’s third destination in Nigeria, which is the most populated country in Africa and one of the world’s most important oil-producing regions. The international port of the industrial city Port Harcourt is an important transshipment point for petroleum and refinery products.
A return ticket from Frankfurt to Port Harcourt can be booked for as little as 749 euros. This fare applies to Economy Class and includes all taxes, charges and the Lufthansa Ticket Service Charge of
15 euros if the booking is made online at www.lufthansa.com. Miles & More members will be awarded miles for these flights. For more information or to make a flight reservation, please visit the Lufthansa website or contact the Lufthansa Call Center on
