Deutsche Lufthansa has said tight travel budgets meant 2009 would be a bleak year, following a 64% profit drop in 2008. Reuters reported Germany’s national carrier as saying yesterday that its operating profit for this year is likely to fall considerably from the EUR1.35 billion (US$1.72 billion) it made last year. It predicted however, that it would remain in profit.
“The year 2009 will make great demands of us all,” an airline statement said, adding that earnings could improve again in 2010.
Lufthansa said on Tuesday that passenger traffic fell 9.8% in February.
