Lufthansa is purchasing half of UK-based carrier bmi, the BBC has reported. The German national carrier has reportedly agreed terms to buy out the 50% stake owned by bmi Chairman, Sir Michael Bishop. The German carrier was already bmi’s second-largest shareholder, with a stake of 30% stake.
The deal is valuable to Lufthansa as it increases its number of take-off & landing at London’s Heathrow Airport. The deal, worth an estimated GBP318 million (US$512 million) is set to be completed by 16 January.
