Malaysia’s Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) is investigating an alleged misuse of government funds to produce a tourism promotional video. The Star newspaper said the ACA visited the Ministry premises, asking questions about procedures with regards to its promotions.
According to the paper, Tourism Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor was reported to have said that his ministry started an internal probe two weeks ago. It followed allegations that two officers had misused about RM850,000 (US$260,000) to promote Malaysia as a tourism destination, including producing a video.
It was reported that a tender for the video production was given to a non-existent company registered to several South Koreans, who are said to be friends of the two officers.
The ministry was given RM1.8billion under the 9th Malaysia Plan, RM858million under Budget 2008 and RM149million for Visit Malaysia 2007.
