Marriott International has announced plans to develop New York’s tallest hotel. The hotel chain has signed a franchise agreement with Granite Broadway Development and management deal with Interstate Hotels and Resorts to launch the Courtyard and Residence Inn Manhattan/Central Park which will have 68 storeys. The property will house 378 rooms for Courtyard by Marriott and 261 rooms for Residence Inn, with an expected opening in late 2013. The hotel’s main entrance will be located on 54th Street with separate public areas for each brand on the third and fourth floors. In addition there will be shops along the ground floor, a leased restaurant and a lounge and terrace overlooking Broadway. “This project is a long time coming, and we believe that these two brands, along with the leased retail shops and restaurant, will offer needed services in this part of Manhattan,” said Ronnie Gross, vice president of Granite Broadway Development.
