Marriott International is on track to open seven hotels in India this year, the US-based hotel giant’s President & Managing Director of International Lodging, Ed Fuller, has said. The new properties will add a total of 1,561 rooms into the country’s inventory, and create approximately 2,000 new jobs.
“Despite the global economic slowdown and pockets of political unrest, India’s tourism sector continues to demonstrate encouraging resilience,” Fuller said. “Since our Global Sales Office opened in India a little more than five years ago, total room night sales have increased over 500% and all our existing hotels in the country are performing to expectation.”
Marriott’s new hotels will represent three of the company’s six international brands, from the luxury JW Marriott, to the upscale Marriott, and the upper-moderate Courtyard by Marriott brand. The new properties are as follows: the 320-room JW Marriott Hotel Bangalore, the 426-room Pune Marriott Hotel & Convention Center, the 199-room Courtyard by Marriott Gurgaon, 153-room Courtyard by Marriott West Pune, 193-room Courtyard by Marriott Hyderabad, 164-room Courtyard by Marriott Ahmedabad, and the 299-room Courtyard by Marriott Mumbai International Airport
When opened, they will more than double Marriott’s portfolio in India. Another 14 previously announced hotels are expected to open in India through 2012.
