Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will add two new destinations to its route map later this year – the south Indian city of Kochi and Darwin, in Australia’s Northern Territory.
Flights to Kochi, in the state of Kerala, will commence on 1 September 2013, operating daily direct from Kuala Lumpur. Then from 1 November 2013, MAS will reinstate its direct service between KL and Darwin, with five flights per week.
Both new routes will be operated using a two-class, 160-seater Boeing 737-800.
The new routes form the latest phase in the national carrier’s expansion. Since cutting several routes under a cost-cutting plan in early 2012, MAS has since added new services to Kathmandu and will relaunch services to Dubai on 5 August 2013.
“Kochi and Darwin have always been a strong secondary market and we see those destinations a fit to our overall network,” MAS group CEO, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya.
In addition to the new routes, MAS recently increased the frequency of its flights to Phuket.
