MASwings receives 9th ATR72-500

Kota Kinabalu: MASwings 9th ATR is set to take off from Subang to Kota Kinabalu today after undergoing maintenance checks and certification of airworthiness by Department of Civil Aviation. The aircraft arrived Subang from Toulouse, France on 16 March 2010 bearing the registration 9M-MWI.
MASwings Managing Director, Dato’ Mohd Salleh Ahmad Tabrani said, “We are glad our ATR aircrafts are delivered upon schedule. This allows us to action on our network expansion plan”.
“We have conducted thorough studies on the feasibility of MASwings route expansion into new frontiers and we are convinced that the ATR is able to cater to market outside of Borneo. We are working very closely with various tourism bodies in promoting Sabah and Sarawak and to get more tourist arrivals into both states” he added.
MASwings is confident to boost tourism in Sabah and Sarawak and at the same time, connecting neighbouring countries to both states. The people in Sabah and Sarawak can look forward to experience direct international connection, giving them convenience, better comfort and affordable travel.
Meantime, the 9th ATR will replace the Fokker 50 routing from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu, Kota Kinabalu to Labuan, Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan as well as Kota Kinabalu to Sibu and Kuching vice versa effective 28 March 2010. The introduction of the ATR will increase additional overall seat capacity by 1,386 passengers per week or 36% injection on the above routes without changes in flight frequencies. The overall combined seat capacity for these six routes are 3,850 per week before the introduction of the ATR and will increase to 5,236 per week after 28 March 2010.
The 9th ATR is named after Bario, suggested by the Chief Minister of Sarawak, Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud. Bario is located in the centre of the Kelabit Highlands, tucked in the north eastern of Sarawak and is very close to the international border between Kalimantan and Sarawak.
By early April 2010, MASwings would not only have received but will be operating 10 ATR72 -500 and serving a total of 22 destinations and 39 routes.
