With numbers of Chinese skiers predicted to more than double to 10 million by 2010, Melco China Resorts (MCR) has revealed plans for their inaugural on-piste development at Sun Mountain Yabuli.
MCR, the largest operator and developer of ski resorts in China, is currently transforming an five existing ski areas in Beijing, Heilongjiang and Jilin to bring international-standards to the resorts.
Ski resorts of this standard although highly sought after, are not currently available in China. Sun Mountain Yabuli, in the northeastern Heliongjiang province, will be the first resort to fill the market gap for up-market recreational activities among the country’s rapidly growing middle and upper classes, according to MCR.
Yabuli is a village centred mountain resort with three premium hotels under construction (two at the base of the mountain, one at the of the mountain, Sun Mountain Lodge) with a total of 312 rooms, including 24 luxury suites with sauna, outdoor hot tub and observatory. The development is due for completion in December 2008, with a 263 room condo hotel also planned by December 2009. Yabuli’s Sun Mountain Lodge will become part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection.
“Our commitment is to introduce standards that did not previously exist in China’s ski industry,” commented Graham Kwan, CEO of MCR. “Our portfolio of integrated resorts and luxurious resort homes represents a status and lifestyle pinnacle that was not available in Northern China until now.”
MCR also will offer a heated gondola ski lifts for its VIP guests and residents, plus mountain-side resort homes.
