Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam have jointly published a 148-page guide showing where and how to enjoy responsible tourism activities in the three countries. “The Guide to Responsible Tourism in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam” details over 25 activities in each country, aimed at creating income for local people, minimising negative tourism impacts, involving members of the local communities in running the business, conserving natural and cultural heritage, providing meaningful experiences for tourists, helping people with physical disabilities, and building respect between visitors and hosts.
“The various recommended activities in the book show the best side of tourism,” said Arjun Thapan, Director General of the Asian Development Bank’s Southeast Asia Department, which has supported the publication through its Mekong Tourism Development Project.
“All the activities recommended in the book help alleviate poverty,” he added.
The guide was written by Mekong sub-region experts Guy Marris, Nick Ray and Bernie Rosenbloom, and was edited by Ken Scott.
