Melbourne Airport terminal 4 won’t be equipped with “unnecessary extras” such as business lounges or aerobridges, with aircraft instead being parked “right up in front of the terminal”.
Tiger Airways Australia will be the anchor tenant of the revamped terminal which will be located adjacent to the existing terminals giving easy access for passengers to ground transport.
The terminal will be a “low-frills facility, providing good value for Tiger Airways and its passengers,” according to airport ceo Chris Barlow.
Tiger chief Tony Davis said he was delighted that Melbourne was providing the carrier with a terminal which would allow it to live up to its mantra of “providing efficient and punctual airline service to our passengers at the lowest possible fares”.
Details of the launch of Tigers’ Australian services haven’t yet been released, with the carrier yet to receive official authorisation for its A320 operations.
However it’s expected that the domestic services will launch before the end of 2007.
