MIAL conducts emergency drill

Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL) and Air India jointly conducted an emergency exercise –
‘Operation Vijay’ at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA), Mumbai.
The drill conducted last week was to test the adequacy of the Airport Emergency Response Plan to cope with an aircraft emergency. Air India was the designated airline that participated in the exercise.
The drill involved all Response Departments of the airport to assess and evaluate the preparedness of MIAL and its stakeholders at CSIA in handling an emergency situation. The drill provided an opportunity for the airport’s various departments including Fire & Emergency services, Terminals, Airside Operations, Engineering & Maintenance, Security and Medical services to put their emergency training to the test.
Around nine major hospitals, 16 Ambulance services and government organisations such as Immigration, customs, CISF, Police and MCGM Disaster Management Cell participated in this exercise. To add a sense of reality to this drill, 150 volunteers acted as meters and greeters, injured passengers and flight crew, while the Indian Navy provided a chopper that was used to airlift two passengers and transfer them the hospitals. A total of 600 people participated in this exercise.
