Brits travelling to countries in Africa have been heading south as the Middle East unrest continues to hit holiday figures. Cox & Kings has seen bookings in Africa shift to destinations such as Ethiopia and Madagascar, with overall bookings up 84%. Louise Stanion, Africa product manager at Cox & Kings said the news was a result of a new client mindset and the influence of television. “Africa is considered to be ‘safe’ and as our clients are becoming more adventurous, they are wanting to visit countries that are off the main tourist path,” she explained. “[Also], David Attenborough’s recent Madagascar programme certainly raised awareness and helped generate interest in visiting the country.” Meanwhile, Abercrombie & Kent has seen an increase in sales to Africa and now plans to expand its team to continue the success.
