After denying Air India’s (AI) initial application to launch flights to Melbourne this winter, the Civil Aviation Ministry has doubled back on its decision to disapprove the route, reports The Indian Express. But this comes too late in the day for AI as the Ministry’s indecisiveness will cost the carrier its share of winter traffic. As the ministry fumbled the decision, Air India has been unable to put tickets on sale, which company insiders say undermined their marketing strategy and has caused them to miss the winter season. International Air Travel is typically organised three months ahead, so any route must be logged with Global Distribution Systems at least three months prior to its maiden flight. The route is due to begin operations in November after AI announced plans to launch the non-stop flight back in June.
