The Nepalese Tourism Board (NTB)has witnessed a rise in the number of UK arrivals and is keen to target the British travel trade. In 2009, arrival figures rose to 35,382 from 33,658 the previous year, suggesting that the region is gaining popularity despite recession. Between January and July this year the county has seen 15,761 UK visitors arrive by air, though this figure may increase once land arrivals from India and China have been factored in. “We want to attract the UK travel trade as Nepal is a very popular destination for UK visitors,” NTB Communications Manager Laxman Gautam told Travel Daily UK. “We have a vast and rich cultural heritage as well as lots of vibrant festivals. Coming up in the next we months we have the Dasain festival and the Tihar Festival which are always popular with visitors.” To target the travel trade NTB will be hosting its biggest ever stand at World travel Market and hopes to educate agents and tour operators on its offerings. “The UK has always been an important market and we want to expand on this. We are home to the world’s highest mountain and every visitor to this country will get a unique experience. This is something we’d like to stress to the travel trade,” added Gautam.
