Most Australian businesses to review travel costs - survey

Voyager Travel has published the results of an online survey to discover Australian businesses’ corporate travel plans amid the global economic slowdown. Of those companies surveyed, 71% of said that they had already reviewed their travel costs and related budgets for the next 6 months. 61% of those said they would be making cuts of up to 25% in spend, while 36% replied that they expected spend to remain in line with their budgets.
With regard to booking practices, 67% of respondents said they would be aggressively moving toward more restrictive airfare types for domestic travel. For international travel this figure was slightly less at 54%, however Voyager Travel added that a number of the companies said they were “evaluating” moving from Business Class to Premium Economy or Economy Class.
61% of respondents however, said they were not considering using lower standard hotels for domestic travel and 73% of respondents said their international hotel choices would remain the same. The results would suggest that standard of accommodation is important to both travellers and their employers.
Group travel appears to be an area where companies are looking to make savings. Over 62% of respondents expect their group spend to be reduced.
