Munich Airport experienced a significant surge in traffic in 2025, welcoming 43.4 million passengers, an increase of 1.8 million from the previous year. This 4.4% rise positioned the airport as the leader in absolute passenger growth among German-speaking countries. Flight movements also rose by 3%, with 337,000 takeoffs and landings recorded.
The airport's expansion was driven by increased European and intercontinental traffic, with European routes growing by 4.3% and long-haul traffic by 8.5%. The route network expanded to 232 destinations across Germany and 71 other countries, served by 96 airlines, including five all-cargo carriers. Cargo volumes also exceeded pre-COVID levels, rising by 10% to 340,000 tonnes.
Despite challenges such as weather disruptions and drone sightings, Munich Airport improved its punctuality rate to over 75%, ranking it among Europe's top three major hubs for on-time performance. The introduction of advanced CT scanners at security checkpoints has enhanced passenger throughput, with 95% of passengers clearing security in under ten minutes.
Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport, highlighted the airport's role as a key economic driver for Bavaria, stating, "Munich Airport is growing dynamically and consistently expanding its services. This means that our hub remains an important junction for our passengers." As the airport continues to modernise, it remains a crucial contributor to the region's economic growth and prosperity.
