Myanmar will grant visa-on-arrival to allow cross-border tourists from China to travel deep into the country, Xinhua has reported. Tourists crossing by road from Teng Chong, Yunnan province, will be able to connect to Myanmar’s main tourist sites, such as Bagan and Mandalay and Yangon, by air from the border town of Myitkyina.
As part of the deal, Myanmar will also grant visa on arrival for tourists arriving at Myitkyina on chartered flights from other areas of China. Previously cross-border tourists from China are only allowed to travel as far as Myitkyina, with formal visas required for travellers wanting to explore deeper into the country.
