The north-eastern state of Nagaland is seeking investment from non-resident Indians (NRI) in the hospitality sector. Addressing the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas meeting in Delhi on Sunday, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said; “It is now time for investors to open branded hotels in Nagaland. The scope and the returns are guaranteed with the great interest and inflow of tourists into the State.” He said the North East has the potential of being a major tourist destination because of its scenic beauty, exotic flora and fauna, breathtaking landscapes and vibrant cultures. The Hornbill Festival has become international with participation in recent years of cultural troupes from Japan, Korea, Thailand and Myanmar. The Chief Minister acknowledged that the New Year gift to do away with Protected Area Permits for three north-eastern states would surely give the much needed impetus to tourism industry.
