Namibia has announced that its entire coastline is now a national park to show its commitment to sustainable development. The Namub-Skeleton Coast National Park stretches from Angola’s Iona National Park to South Africa’s Richetersveld National Park and covers 26.6 million acres. Louise Stanion, Africa product manager at Cox and Kings, which operates tours to the destination, said the move is a positive step for the country. “This directive will make it so much easier to control damaging activity up and down the coastline such as mining and managing tyre tracks from vehicles,” she explained. “I think it’s a great advert for showing that Namibia is serious about the conservation its spectacular coastline. Conserving the environment in the long term can only lead to an increase in tourist numbers.”
