In yet worrying incident for the Indian aviation industry, two planes, one of Air India and operated by Jet Airways, averted a major mishap near Trichy on Saturday, when they came narrowly missed each other in mid air. The pilots of both planes were forced to take evasive to avoid a crash, which would have involved approximately 250 passengers. Both airlines have since claimed that the planes were not in danger, but the incident is unwelcome, especially for Air India, and adds to growing concerns over the safety of Indian skies. One theory for the Trichy near miss is a lack of proper radar cover.
