Nepalese celebrities attended various promotional programmes in the US recently to promote the Nepal Tourism Year 2011 (NTY 2011).Famous Nepali singer Ani Choying Dolma chanted both Buddhist and Hindu mantras and sang her popular songs to an American audience of 400 people at a gallery in Chicago. Speaking at the gathering, she urged the audiences to visit Nepal to enjoy the nature and experience its spiritualism. Meanwhile, Nepal Seattle Society held a tourism promotion programme in Seattle where they presented a popular documentary called ‘Sherpas – The True Heroes of Mount Everest’. Renowned climber Lakpa Rita Sherpa, who once set the record of making the fastest summit of Mt. Everest, and Greg Vernovage, a veteran mountaineer, shared their experiences about mountain climbing with the participants.The US is one of the major tourist generating markets for Nepal and in 2010, the number of American tourists who visited Nepal increased by about 18.9% yoy.
