To mark World Heritage Day 2009, Nepal Heritage Society has opened up courtyards of Basantapur Durbar Square in Kathmandu, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to the public. The courtyards are usually restricted.
The opened areas include Nasal Chowk, where new kings used to be crowned.
