Nepal is planning to attract one million tourist arrivals next year, as it embarks on Visit Nepal Year 2011. For the Himalayan country the ambitious target would represent a 42.9% increase from the 700,000 arrivals it expects this year. To drive this growth, the Nepal Tourism Board, which addressed media at the ITB Asia event in Singapore yesterday, is focusing on promoting several key segments, including adventure tourism, ecotourism and religious tourism. The country, which is home to eight of the world’s tallest mountains, is also planning to offer free visas for Everest climbers, and will open more peaks to mountaineers. In addition, ‘Crisis Cell’ has been established to assist tourists in emergency situations.
