A major new attraction showcasing the history of Buddhism is scheduled to open in Nepal on 4 April. The Lumbini Udyana Mahachaitya World Center for Peace & Unity is located at the UNESCO World Heritage listed town of Lumbini which is said to be the birthplace of Lord Buddha Shakyamuni. The ‘eco-friendly’ structure will form part of a master-planned community that will eventually host more than 40 Buddhist temples in different national styles.
The ecological design of the structure, combined with more than 1,000 custom-made copper statues depicting the Buddha, is designed to create a serene atmosphere to assist meditation.
