The Nevada Commission on Tourism is to push multi-destination trips for the UK travel trade. Speaking at WTM, Larry Friedman, the commission’s deputy director, told Travel Daily that the US state was concentrating on attracting adventure seeking UK holidaymakers, who could ski in Heavenly in Lake Tahoe during the day, before flying to Las Vegas for night time thrills. “The UK is extremely important to Nevada,” said Friedman. “Virgin Atlantic has been very successful with ski holidays through San Francisco and we believe we can do the same here. Brits are more adventurous than us Americans and two centre holidays are something that we’re very keen to increase.” To draw further traffic from the UK, Las Vegas will also see the opening of a new hotel in December - the highly anticipated Cosmopolitan alongside traditional favourites Caesar’s Palace, Paris and the iconic Flamingo. Nevada’s Commission on Tourism also hopes to increase its arrivals traffic in the future by staging a bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. “Our numbers are always increasing,” added Friedman. “There are so many unknowns in Nevada - like Great Basin National Park and the Valley of Fire - and our main challenge is engaging UK travellers with these less heard of attractions.”
