Almost 6300 visitors have clicked on to www.cairnsgreatbarrierreef.org.au and stayed for an average of five minutes during the website’s first month of operation.
Tourism Tropical North Queensland Chief Executive Officer Rob Giason said the region’s new destination website was a hit with consumers as the figures for average length of stay and pages viewed per visit were exceptional.
“We’re very proud of our site’s performance as in its first month of operation to December 12 www.cairnsgreatbarrierreef.org.au received 6295 unique visits, more than 28,000 page views and each visitor is viewing an average of 4.5 pages per visit which shows our content is relevant and engaging,” he said.
“It is also pleasing to see www.cairnsgreatbarrierreef.org.au is consistently receiving a high ranking in Google. The search words ‘Cairns Great Barrier Reef’ rank our region’s website either first or second in Google, the words ‘Cairns North Queensland’ and ‘Cairns Queensland’ rank us second and ‘Cairns webcams’ finds us in the top 10 listings. Search engine traffic is continuing to increase and predominantly comes from Google and Yahoo.
“With three webcams operating, another seven coming on line soon plus more than 95 product videos, we are at the forefront of the strategic direction being rolled out by many companies recognising that video is king in attracting people to websites and keeping them there longer.”
TTNQ’s Web Project Manager Steve O’Malley said work was continuing on the site which was receiving positive feedback from consumers, TTNQ members and the IT industry.
“The Director of Synchromedia Group Paul Egan has praised the website for its direct links to members which he believes will achieve great results for their business from the referral traffic it generates,” he said.
The website was launched on November 12. It uses the latest multimedia tools to integrate
TTNQ members’ product information with quality online product videos, consumer feedback and real time visuals of Tropical North Queensland’s sub-regions using webcams and live weather information to provide an extensive one-stop research and booking site for travellers.
