The new domestic terminal at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, will not be delivered this year, The Times of India has reported. The Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) had promised that the new larger domestic terminal would be in place in time for the winter.
However it is now reported that the interim terminal is unlikely to be ready before mid-January, and with airlines unwilling to shift operations from the existing 1B and 1A terminals during the busy season, the new facility is unlikely to be operational before March.
“The new domestic terminal 1D will be commissioned in early 2009. All the existing terminals are being modernized and their capacities enhanced. The expansion of 1B on city side; security hold area on LCC side and arrival terminal will lead to enhanced capacity,” The Times quoted a DIAL official as saying.
