Operations at Medan’s new airport are scheduled to begin in 2013, the Jakarta Post has reported. Kuala Namu Airport, which will replace the Sumatra city’s existing Polonia International Airport, were expected to begin next year, but the launch date has been postponed. The new regional hub, which covers 1,035 hectares, will have a capacity of eight million passengers a year and will be able to accommodate large wide-body aircraft such as the Airbus A380. The terminal and runways are expected to be ready for testing by November 2012.
