Singapore, 28 January 2010: Meritus Mandarin Singapore announced today that it has changed its name to Mandarin Orchard Singapore. It continues to be owned by Overseas Union Enterprise Ltd and managed by Meritus Hotels & Resorts.
Established in 1971, the hotel occupies a prime position right in the heart of Orchard,
Singapore’s premier shopping and entertainment enclave. Through its 39-year history, it has witness Orchard Road develop from a rural backwater, to become THE must-go destination in Singapore for both foreigners and locals alike.
Today, Orchard is undoubtedly the nucleus of Singapore, as well as an embodiment of the city-state’s progress on the international stage. Its tree-lined street is flanked with swanky shopping malls filled with renowned brand names and a plethora of exciting food and beverage options.
With the hotel set right in the middle of all the action, there is merit in modifying its name to include the word ‘Orchard’. This will serve to reinforce the hotel’s location, particularly with visitors from overseas, allowing them to associate it with its world famous location.
“The name change comes at a timely juncture in the hotel’s history,” said Ms. Katherine Wong, General Manager, Mandarin Orchard Singapore. “With the hotel having just completed its multi-million dollar major refurbishment programme, as well as having been awarded its ISO 9001:2008 certification, the name change serves as the icing on the cake to complete the repackaged product that is the Grand Dame of Orchard Road.”
Moving forward, guests can rest assured that the hotel’s signature Asian grace, warmth and care will continue to pervade in every aspect of its service. In addition, it will embark on an extensive branding campaign to reinforce the name change amongst the general public.
