Unite has delayed its latest strike ballot against British Airways as members consider the airline’s latest offer. “Not to consult our members on this final offer would be suicide. And to do that, we have to postpone our ballot,” Unite Joint Secretary Tony Woodley told the Guardian. “The company has made it clear that the offer on the table will be removed if the strike ballot starts on Tuesday,” he added. Woodley also hinted that the proposal may have been accepted if it included the reinstatement of stripped travel perks. It does make concessions by offering crew a minimum allowance payment but this will not undo the staffing cuts that started the dispute. “There is no doubt that this is an interesting change that will allow members to know that, with or without new fleet, they have a contractual guarantee of earnings in the future,” said Woodley. Consultation is expected to start today and could last three weeks. “We have changed our offer in line with feedback we have received from crew and we genuinely believe that it can end this dispute – which is what the vast majority of crew and our customers want,” said BA cabin crew head Bill Francis.
