A new prepaid card has been launched that airlines can issue to delayed customers to cover refreshments.
Travel Welfare has teamed up with Payment Card Technologies (PCT) to offer the new Visa card, which can be preloaded with a set amount of cash that customers can use in the airport when they are delayed or stuck.
Once the flight departs the cards will be inactive with unused funds going back to the airline.
The companies hope the uptake will be swift as the current paper voucher mode is expensive and difficult to track.
“Clearly the main advantage of these cards is an improved customer experience at a time when understandably, they may feel frustrated and agitated. The card ensures customers receive their legal entitlement without any unnecessary delay, in a format that’s very easy for them to use, helping to support brand loyalty,” said PCT’s CEO Ian Clowes.
David Mills from Travel Welfare added: “Airlines will also have the opportunity to drive marketing messages and build customer touchpoints through the cards. Flight delays are a fact of life and airlines understand the impact these can have on brand loyalty. By providing customers with instant access to funds to make their wait more comfortable they are demonstrating their commitment to improving the customer experience at a time when it is perhaps most valued.”
