New rail to link HKG and Sth China

The express rail link is planned to be built between Hong Kong and the Southern China cities of Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
Train travel between Hong Kong and Guangzhou, will be cut from nearly two hours to about 50 minutes when the new line is opened, as an example that was given.
Hong Kong Chief Executive, Donald Tsang has reportedly said the “the new line would enhance the city’s status as regional transportation hub.
The new rail is intended to be the ‘southern gate’ for travelling to and from the mainland.
According to reports in China, it will be ready by 2014 at the earliest, and although the cost has not been confirmed it is expected that it would be more than US $2.7 billion.
